This Privacy Policy explains how R! Messages ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
R! Messages is a personal reminder app that presents your reminders as a chat: you "message" a chat and the App schedules those messages to be delivered back to you as notifications at a future time. The App is published by NamHS. Contact: namhs.mobile@gmail.com.
2. Data we process
Content you create (stored on your device by default)
Your reminders, quick notes, chat content, schedules, display name, avatar and app settings are stored locally on your device (an on-device database). By default this content stays on your device — we do not sync or receive it. The one exception is a quick note you choose to make public, which is uploaded to our cloud backend so other users can see it (see Public notes below). Uninstalling the App, or using the in-app data-cleanup / clear options, removes the on-device copy.
Public notes you publish (Discover)
The App includes a Discover feed of public quick notes. When you switch a quick note to Public, its text, emoji and timestamp are uploaded to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) and become visible to all other users of the App. Reactions you give to other people's public notes — and reactions others give to yours — are stored there too. Public notes are day-scoped: they are shown only for the day they are posted and are removed automatically afterwards. Switching a note back to Private, or deleting it, removes it from the public feed. Please do not publish anything you would not want to be public, and avoid including personal or sensitive information in a public note.
Reports & moderation
Each public note has a Report option. When you report a note, we store on Google Firebase a moderation record containing the reason you selected, a snapshot of the reported note (its text and emoji), and the anonymous identifiers of both you (the reporter) and the note's author. We use this only to review the content and enforce our rules — for example to remove a note or to block (ban) an anonymous identifier that breaks the rules. Notes you report are also hidden from your own feed. Because these records exist for safety and abuse-prevention, they may be kept after the reported note's day has passed.
Backups you create
When you use the Backup / Restore feature, the App writes or reads a backup file to a location you choose through the Android file picker. We never upload it anywhere; only you control that file.
Advertising & related identifiers
The App shows ads through Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google may collect and process information such as your device's Advertising ID, IP address, and general device/usage information. Depending on your consent and region, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. See Google's policies in Section 5.
No login, but an anonymous identifier
The App has no login or user account: we do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, or precise location. So that public notes and reactions can be attributed without a login, the App uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication, which assigns a random, app-generated identifier stored on Google's servers. It is not linked to your real-world identity. A new identifier is created if you reinstall the App or clear its data.
3. How information is used
- To store and show your reminders and run their notifications (on-device).
- To publish the notes you mark public, show the Discover feed, and record reactions, via Google Firebase.
- To review reports and moderate the public feed — removing notes or restricting identifiers that break our rules — via Google Firebase.
- To display ads that keep the App free, via Google AdMob.
- To process in-app purchases / subscriptions, via Google Play Billing.
- To keep the App working reliably (e.g. network state for loading ads, remote feature flags).
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Consent for ads (EEA / UK / certain US states)
Where required by law, the App shows a consent form (via Google's User Messaging Platform) before serving personalized ads, and lets you change your choice later under Settings → Ad options. Your consent choice is stored by Google's consent SDK.
5. Third-party services
The App relies on the following Google services, each governed by Google's own privacy terms:
- Google Firebase — Cloud Firestore (stores and serves public notes, reactions, and content reports / moderation records), Anonymous Authentication (the anonymous identifier), and Remote Config (remote feature flags). Governed by Firebase Privacy & Security and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google AdMob — advertising. support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543 and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing — in-app purchases and subscriptions. policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Play services — required platform services.
6. Permissions
- Notifications — to deliver your scheduled reminders.
- Internet / Network state — to load ads and process purchases.
- Wake lock — used by background scheduling to deliver reminders on time.
7. Data retention & deletion
Your on-device content lives on your device until you delete it (in-app cleanup, clearing app data, or uninstalling). For advertising data held by Google, see Google's policy and your device's Ads settings to reset or limit your Advertising ID.
Public notes and reactions are stored on Google Firebase and are day-scoped — only the current day's notes are shown in Discover, and each day's notes are cleared afterwards. You can remove a published note sooner by switching it back to Private or deleting it. Moderation records created when content is reported may be retained longer for safety and abuse-prevention. To request deletion of data tied to your anonymous identifier, contact us at the address below.
8. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Your rights
Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) you may have rights to access, delete, or restrict processing of your data. Because most content is stored only on your device, you exercise those rights directly in the App. You can withdraw a note you published by switching it back to Private or deleting it; for advertising data, use Google's controls referenced above; and to access or delete data tied to your anonymous identifier, contact us.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected in the App.
